To get a preview of high school Cross Country and to compete against other middle school runners, join coaches Fiona Murphy and Antonietta O’Toole on Mondays and Thursdays for this eight-week Cross Country Program. This program will focus on strength, flexibility, endurance, technique and speed, and all athletes will learn lifelong lessons for effective stretching practices, good running form, and pacing. Athletes will be grouped by ability-level to train on the high school cross-country trails and to complete workouts on the track and streets around the High School. As athletes progress, they will be encouraged to compete at competitive invitationals/meets and local road races.
No running experience required, but it will be helpful to have built up some stamina prior to the start of practice by walking 2-3 times per week for 15 minutes, for at least 2 weeks.
In the event of inclement weather that inhibits activity, you will be notified by email of that day's cancellation as early as possible. Every effort will be made to make up the missed class at the end of the program. During the winter, if Walpole Public School closes due to inclement weather, Recreation Department programs and classes will also be cancelled for the day.
Because the Recreation Department incurs expenses to hire staff, purchase supplies and materials, and contract other expenses in preparation of a program, the department cannot offer full refunds. Full credits may be issued. Partial refunds may be issued upon request, however a 20% administrative fee over the overall program cost will be deducted per registrant. The Recreation Department will not issue refunds for any credit card convenience fees incurred. No refunds or credits will be issued without 48 hours' notice prior to the start of the program.
