This seminar will be a fast paced review focusing on the identification and placement of ornamental landscape plants and natives, to encourage sustainable landscape design practices.
In addition you will be introduced to  species of the common native and non-native ornamental plants used in landscape architecture, horticulture, and urban forestry in New England.
This seminar will approach plant identification from a horticultural perspective, covering basic plant morphology and botany to aid in the understanding of plant identification, also touching on the horticultural, cultural and environmental requirements of each plant in relation to practical application.

Participants will be able to:
Identify basic plant morphology and biological characteristics to aid in successful plant identification. Understand the uses and application of plant species within a successful landscape design. Understand the role and/or implications of native plant species vs ornamental species within the residential landscape application. Understand the proper maintenance requirements and practices to maintain a sustainable home landscape in regards to plant species and specific requirements of that species.

Inclement Weather
In the event of inclement weather that inhibits activity, you will be notified by email of that day's cancellation as early as possible. Every effort will be made to make up the missed class at the end of the program. During the winter, if Walpole Public School closes due to inclement weather, Recreation Department programs and classes will also be cancelled for the day.

Refund Policy
Because the Recreation Department incurs expenses to hire staff, purchase supplies and materials, and contract other expenses in preparation of a program, the department cannot offer full refunds. Full credits may be issued. Partial refunds may be issued upon request, however a 20% administrative fee over the overall program cost will be deducted per registrant. The Recreation Department will not issue refunds for any credit card convenience fees incurred. No refunds or credits will be issued without 48 hours' notice prior to the start of the program.
